Sookyun Yang is an artist whose practice explores matter and experience within technological ecosystems. She studied Painting at Hongik University, where she received an MFA in Interaction Design and a PhD in Film and Digital Media. Since her debut through the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture’s Geumcheon Art Factory Davinci Idea in 2010, her practice has evolved from wearable devices that visualize embodied technological experiences to collective practices that explore real-time spatiality through signal-based transformations of physical objects (Jonpasang, 2010 –2016). More recently, she investigates the flexible relations between matter and information through algorithmic errors, minor data in opposition to big data, and non-universal uses of applications, working across diverse media. She has participated in residencies at Geumcheon Art Factory (2011), Asia Culture Center Creators in Lab (2015 –16), and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) Chang-dong Project Team (2017) and has received project support from the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, and Hyundai Motor Group ZER01NE. Her work has been exhibited at CDA, HEK Basel, Ars Electronica, C-LAB Taipei, Nam June Paik Art Center, ACC Creation, Changwon Sculpture Biennale, Seoul Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, and G.MAP. Her solo exhibitions include Material, Sensory, Generation (2018), A Vanishing Sense of Physical: Habitat Data (2023), and Speculative Matters (2025).
