Klifs’ first public art works were Prepared TV Sets (1992-1995). The insides and outsides of 50s and 60s TV set boxes were fitted with motors, big lenses, lights, toys and occasionally live portable TVs. The works used buttons on the TVs or were provided with separate sets of controls, in order to allow the visitor to create his/her own “programme”. Untitled, a continuation of the TV-sets series, uses the same principle of found objects and lenses to create distorted but magic and ludic dreamlike images.
The installation Inside/Out consists of five projectors, eight monitors and three computer controlled cameras. The video is completely analog – three cameras are connected directly to projectors. There is no processing of the video of any kind. The computer only controls camera movement.
