Technical Planning Workshop with Filip Pacak (HR)

Workshop

On 22 and 23 October 2025, KONTEJNER hosted a two-day educational programme in technical literacy for future organisers, producers and curators, led by experienced technician and sound engineer and long-standing expert collaborator of the organisation - Filip Pacak.

The two-day technical planning workshop was designed with the aim of empowering and technically educating young people interested in organisation and production in the fields of art and culture. The workshop included a lecture on the fundamentals of technical planning, an introduction to basic technical terminology, and the sharing of knowledge and experience with a focus on the pre-production of a specific type of event (concert, exhibition, panel discussion, festival, etc.), as well as practical work on concrete examples and a hands-on approach intended for future application. As with the planning process of any event, the workshop began with defining the content and selecting an appropriate space for its realisation. This was followed by an introduction to understanding technical riders for performers and venues, budget development, and planning of technical teams and production timelines. The programme continued with an overview of the basics of audio and video equipment, lighting systems, power consumption and electrical connections, as well as common technical issues and troubleshooting. It also addressed the current state of the market, including up-to-date equipment rental prices and technical staff hourly rates, information on service providers, and related topics. The final part of the workshop consisted of practical work in which participants drafted and “prepared”, that is, planned the realisation of various types of events. The tasks were subsequently presented and analysed, accompanied by concrete advice and constructive feedback.

The workshop was intended for young adults over the age of 18 interested in organisation and production in arts and culture, with no upper age limit. No prior knowledge was required to participate, although participants with previous organisational experience were also welcome.

This workshop is part of the project New Perspectives for Action, co-financed by the European Union, within the framework of Re-Imagine Europe.

Filip Pacak (1992) completed the Audio Production Study at the SAE Institute in Ljubljana (BA), and began gaining professional experiencealready during his studies (2012-2014). He collaborates with numerous cultural organizations, and his most significant work experience was gained as a sound engineer and light technician at the Močvara club (8 years), as a technician at Pogon Jedinstvo (6 years, of which 2 years as technical manager), and as an long-term associate at KONTEJNER where he is still active as a technician and sound engineer. Pacak is an experienced head of technical production and stage manager, and from 2024 he was engaged in the core production team of the INmusic festival. He works as a concert promoter through his own agency Subsonic Events. Since 2017, Pacak regularly delivered lectures and leads workshops in the field of sound design, technical production and event organization.
