Explosions, crashes, disassembly and dismantling have always interested a Dutch artist Marnix de Nijs. His artistic motivation varies from an ordinary human thirst for sensations to a necessity for mapping out or challenging certain social developments. This is accompanied with an interest in purely artistic and aesthetic potential of destruction.

Crowds have always, to borrow from Guns 'n' Roses, had an appetite for destruction. What is it about damage that makes people happy? From the Bastille to an American phenomenon of demolition derby (smashing junk cars at public arenas), the collective thirst for wreckage has never lost its appeal. Within the project Vibrating Zagreb - ThrillmachineMarnix de Nijs comes out to meet such appetites as the performance entails a spirited, high-energy 'shaking' of the architecture. In his performance artist shakes up people's false sense of security.

Thrillmachine is a device that can bring an entire building into motion through heavy vibrations. The machine vibrates with the use of weights; a relatively small weight is attached eccentrically to an revolving axis. This technique produces vibrations that are powerful enough to bring an entire building into motion. The vibrating building confuses the balance system of the visitors inside the building, and creates a feeling of being slightly out of control, in some cases even generating nausea.
