The one-day technical planning workshop is designed with the aim of empowering and providing technical literacy to young people interested in organization and production in art and culture. The workshop includes a lecture on the basics of technical planning, familiarization with basic technical terminology, sharing of knowledge and experience with a focus on the pre-production of a specific event (concert, exhibition, forum, festival, etc.), and a practical part based on specific examples and a hands-on approach for future use. Similar to the process of planning an event, the workshop begins with defining the content and adequate space for its realization; followed by learning how to read and understand the technical riders, both artists’ rider and venue’s, estimation of costs and budget breakdown, how to plan the technical teams and timeline for the realization. Pacak will introduce participants with the basic knowledge of audio and video equipment, lighting devices, electricity consumption and power connections, then the most common failures and troubleshooting, and the state of the market: current equipment rental prices and working hours of the technical team, who to contact for rental and services, and similar. The last part of the workshop is a practical part in which the participants plan the realization of different types of events. The tasks will then be presented and analyzed with concrete advices and constructive suggestions.

The workshop takes place on October 15, 2024, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, at KONTEJNER (Odranska 1/1), and is intended for young adults interested in organization and production in culture and art, without an upper age limit. No prior knowledge is required to participate in the workshop, but participants with some experience in organization are also welcome.

Participation is free of charge, and to apply, you need to send a short CV with any previous experience in the organization and/or production of cultural events, if you have it, and a few sentences of motivation for participating in the workshop. The application must be sent to davorkabegovic@gmail.com no later than October 10, 2024. If the participant wants to work on the preparation of a specific project, feel free to state it in the application.

The maximum number of participants is 10.

Filip Pacak (1992) completed the Audio Production Study at the SAE Institute in Ljubljana (BA), and he started building his work experience already during his studies (2012-2014). Although he is primarily engaged in sound design and concert production, over the years he has gained knowledge and experience as a technician in the lighting, video and rigging sector. He cooperates with numerous cultural organizations, and his most significant work experience was gained as a sound engineer and light technician at the Močvara club (8 years), as a technician at Pogon Jedinstvo (6 years, of which 2 years as technical manager), and as an expert associate of KONTEJNER where he is still active as a technician and sound engineer. Pacak is an experienced head of technical production and stage manager, and in 2024 he was engaged in the core production team of the InMusic festival.
He works as a concert promoter through his own agency Subsonic Events.
Since 2017, Pacak regularly gives lectures and leads workshops in the field of sound design, technical realization and event organization.
