Future DiverCities is a four-year European project co-funded by the Creative Europe program, uniting 13 partners across 10 countries to reimagine the cultural regeneration of vacant urban spaces through ecological and community-driven approaches. Focusing on eight pilot cities—Berlin, Zagreb, Liepaja, Kuopio, Marseille, Florence, Timișoara, and Athens—the initiative explores three thematic clusters: Biodiversity, Commoning, and Impermanence. Each pilot engages local coalitions, including residents, artists, urbanists, and civic stakeholders, to co-develop long-term, sustainable transformations of underused areas. By integrating the principles of the New European Bauhaus, the project aims to place ecology at the heart of cultural policy, fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and developing new tools to assess and enhance the ecological impact of culture-led urban regeneration.
