After last year's Device_art 6.018: Machines Are Not Alone in Zagreb, Split and Rijeka, Device_art festival travels to the 18th WRO Media Art Biennale in Wroclaw, Poland. Mirjana Vodopija and Lightune.G (Miodrag Gladović and Bojan Gagić) will represent Croatian device art tendencies at the most important event of Polish contemporary art. For 30 years, the WRO Biennale has continuously presented most recent international media art projects. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the WRO 2019 Media Art Biennale is devoted to exploring the topic – Human Aspect.
From mid-May till the end of 2019, a series of WRO events will explore the complexity of the current relations between the human and the technological, with the human as an initiator, a recipient, and sometimes a victim of these mutating interplays.
On the opening day of the biennial, Wednesday May 15th 2019, Croatian duo Lightune.G (Miodrag Gladović and Bojan Gagić) will present their performance Lighterature Reading at one of the 12 program locations named Bakery, and on Friday May 17th 2019 at the National Music Forum artist Mirjana Vodopija will have a separate opening with her work Vibrating Landscape. The Biennale will also present the large Empathy Swarm project - non-anthropomorphic social robot swarm that will in its finals stage consist of 100 interactive robots reacting to human emotions. The artists working on this project are Adam Donovan (AU/AT) and Katrin Hochschuh (DE); they have been building the robots during our three-onth EMAP residency in Zagreb hosted by KONTEJNER.
