Bentronix is a sonic research project or composition for a variable number of hybrid low-voltage generators of sound, consisting of resistors, transistors, switches, etc., that under an electronic voltage produce auditory frequencies. All generators have different architectures and thus each of them produces a fraction of the spectrum, which automatically and also with the author’s intervention produces a composition of sound textures. Generators are connected to sets, so they can communicate simultaneously with each other and transmit signals to sound amplifiers connected to the speakers in the room. The dynamics of the frequency spectrum in this twenty-minute composition, is structured in various mathematical dispositions so it combines sonority of frequency relationships 75Hz:2Khz:10kHz. When a mechanically generated acoustic field reaches some sort of balance, a concert event is transformed into a self-regulating acoustic environment of a low-tech Machine-to-Machine system.This sound-scape then exists in the gallery as an independent acoustic space. Without any intervention from the author the sound ∫eld attempts to achieve a mathematical or physical balance, which is, due to the extreme complexity of the sound, very difficult to reach. The tension between author’s intervention in the hybrid instrument and the “autarchy” of the instrument itself grows into a specific, synthetic materiality of sound.
